After several iterations spanning months, the formal kick-off of the scholarship program was made in an online meeting on September 14. It was attended by signatories UPERDFI President Ferdz de la Cruz and UPCOE AD Juvy Balbarona, and Huawei HR executives, led by Ms. Jade Cao, Human Resources Director. The coverage is for the last two years of study of ECE, Computer Engg, Computer Science and Civil Engg majors. From their sponsoring a student event on campus in October 2019, Huawei has recruited over 40 UPCOE graduates, 20 of whom came from the Class of 2020. They have built their workforce from 600 to almost a thousand in less than a year!

Through UPERDFI’s introduction, Huawei is also discussing two slots for College of Law students. Prior to these scholarship agreements, Huawei signed an MOU covering the subject of Artificial Intelligence with UPD Chancellor Michael Tan in January 2020.
