UPERDFI Members were keynote speakers in various UPCOE online recognition ceremonies held in the third week of July, 2021.

Salvador Antonio “Aboy” Castro, Jr., ChE ‘92, President of CleanTech Global Renewables, Inc. was the keynote speaker at the UP College of Engineering Recognition Rites on July 24. He encouraged the new graduates to continuously strive to make a difference by investing in themselves. He recounted his own experiences as a fresh graduate co-founding an NGO for community improvement, then joining a multinational company, taking new challenges as a basketball coach of UP and a PBA Team, and then, sensing the need to address climate change, moving to renewable energy. CleanTech operates solar and wind farms in Central Luzon, and supports a Professorial Chair in Renewable Energy.

Dr. Henry Lim Bong Liong, ME ‘73, Charman and CEO of the Sterling Paper Group of Companies delivered the Inspirational Talk at the 2021 National Graduate School of Engineering Recognition Rites (for MS and PhD graduates) on July 23. In his talk, Henry cited how engineering courses train students in logical thinking, attention to details, analytical ability, problem solving, and creativity which are very useful in managing a business enterprise.

Liberito “Levy” Espiritu, CE ‘79, Chairman and CEO of DATEM, Inc. left a challenging message at the Institute of Civil Engineering Recognition Rites on July 23. He shared real-life issues and emphasized the core values of integrity, innovation and excellence in the success of DATEM. Together with the UPACES, DATEM established an endowed Professorial Chair in 2004. Levy and wife Roxanne also set up a Professorial Chair in 2014 under their family company LevyRox Corporation.
