UPERDFI mourns the loss of Jun Berba, an esteemed adviser and member who passed away on April 4, 2023. Jun was a builder and nurturer of institutions, a servant leader in the truest sense of the word.

Graduating as a BSEE magna cum laude in 1959, Jun had a distinguished career that started as a cadet engineer with GE. After obtaining his MBA with high distinction from Wharton, he came home to build landmark industries, notably the Meralco Oil Pipeline (Batangas to Pandacan), Cellophil Resources, PHILEC, and others. He also was president of IMI, Globe Telecom, and Manila Water. He organized and led the Philippine Productivity Movement, the Philippine Quality Awards, and the Philippine Foundation for Science and Technology.

In UP, he became president of UP Alumni Engineers, set up the Engineering-Manufacturing Industry Linkage Program (in 1985), and was active as Trustee in UPERDFI. He also established the Godparent Program at the Philippine Science High School. He was the president of the Management Association of the Philippines in 1982 and was honored by the UP Alumni Association. He was one of the Top 100 Alumni of the UP College of Engineering in the COE Centennial in 2010.
