UPERDFI member, Mayor Paul Dumlao of Surigao City, UP BSCE 2002, delivered an inspiring challenge to the UPCOE National Service Training Program (NSTP) graduates on June 3, 2024. The 840 graduates from the UPCOE were split into two batches, with the common venue being the Asian Center Auditorium.
The event was organized under the aegis of the UP Diliman NSTP Office. Dr. Olivia G. Sicam enjoined the graduates to continue serving communities, while Mayor Dumlao discussed what his team is doing in Surigao City to improve the lives of Surigaonons. He shares:
“Today marks a significant milestone in your journey – a journey that is filled with learning, growth and service. As you stand on the threshold of a new chapter in your lives, I am honored to share with you some reflections on the importance of SEIZING OPPORTUNITIES, THE ENDURING VALUE OF GRIT, AND THE POWER OF COMPASSION IN SERVICE!”

Dr. Leslie Diaz, UPCOE Associate Dean for Academics, and ME professor Dr. Julius Lustro are in charge of the UPCOE NSTP. Dean Tonette Tanchuling later joined Mayor Paul, Prof Leslie, Prof Julius, UPERDFI ED Tito Aliga and UPIE alumnus Kevin Paynor for lunch.
