UPERDFI Adviser Fortunato “Boy” T. de la Peña (BS ChE, MS IE) was recognized by the National Academy of Science and Technology for his contributions to the development of science and technology in the Philippines and elected him as an Academician. Rising through the ranks at DOST while being in the UP Faculty, he served as Secretary of the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) in 2010-16. He implemented high-impact projects such as the completion of nine Philippine Science High School campuses, the creation of the national STI foresight and strategic plan Pagtanaw 2050, alongside his mission of “Science for the People”. The investiture was held during the Annual Scientific Meeting of NAST on July 11, 2024 at The Manila Hotel.
