After seeking feedback from COVID-19 Donors who entrusted the UPERDFI Board of Trustees to decide, the BOT meeting on August 19 approved the repurposing of P1.2 Million unappropriated funds for the procurement of laptops. These are meant for Engineering students who need help, and faculty whose personal devices are under-capacity for on-line teaching requirements.
Adding the donations of members Riza and Chicho Mantaring and Francis Felizardo, and from Susan Vidal, P1,282,500 was disbursed to purchase 45 laptops.
Through UPERDFI VP Dante Briones’ efforts, BPI Foundation is also donating 12 Tablets. The UPCOE Laptop Drive is also pushed by the UP Alumni Engineers.
The UP College of Engineering is now on a full remote learning format, which can be described as the Ubiquitous Platform for Learning and Instruction for New-Age Engineers and Scientists, or UPLINES. This requires devices that enable all students to join their online classes anywhere, and review the lectures anytime. The faculty have to be well-equipped also.
