Ma. Alessandra Katinka “Tinka” Yap Azurin, a member of the first class (2002) in UPCOE’s BS Materials Engineering, has gifted UPCOE with a professorial chair in honor of her father, Cezar M. Azurin, Jr. (BSME 1974). Cezar was part of the 1970s bunch of UP Engineers who built the Philippine Semiconductors Industry, initially staffing the influx of multinationals who invested in the Philippines. With his colleagues of mostly Epsilon Chi Fraternity brothers, they set up their own company in 1992. Several new companies were also organized by their colleagues, doing specialty processes in the semiconductors value chain.
In her own name, Tinka also established two scholarship slots for Metallurgical and Materials Engineering majors effective AY 2023-24.
After graduation in 2002, Tinka started her career with Texas Instruments (Baguio Plant), and is now senior manager in the TI Headquarters in Dallas, USA.
We thank Adviser Boy de la Peña, an EpChi Brother of Cezar, for initiating the collaboration!
