UPCOE Dean Tonette Tanchuling and UPERDFI ED Tito Aliga sign the Deed of Donation for the Laguinia Professorial Chair and Scholarship
The Laguinia Family, through the family-owned companies Goodfire Stoves Corporation and Urvara, Inc., established the Enrique Lee Laguinia Professorial Chair Award and Scholarships, respectively.
The honoree, Enrique Lee Laguinia, is a self-educated inventor who parlayed his basic knowledge of math, physics and chemistry to create a kerosene stove, which serves the needs of low-income families, and other mechanical components that have garnered patents; and who received national recognition from agencies of government and learned societies.
The Enrique Lee Laguinia Professorial Chair and Scholarship was celebrated during the May 22, 2024 Signing Ceremony. Family representatives Elma (Arch) and Elena (ChE) and their mother were unable to attend. Elma sent her message which ED Tito read; he also handed out copies of the book “GOODFIRE” which tells the story of Enrique’s life growing up and growing the two companies (he died in 2023, 4 months short of 100). Elena has been sponsoring Thesis Support Grants since 2017.
